Forgotten
Heroes was Michael Bentinck's second book. It was written as a response to
the hundreds of letters that Michael received from readers all over the country who had
read Michael's first book, My
Dad My Hero. Those readers urged Michael to "Tell it as it really
was!"
Forgotten Heroes tells
the stories of six more soldiers who became prisoners at the hands, and mercy, of the
Japanese during World War Two. All of these stories give a horrific account of what life
was like as a prisoner of the Japanese during World War Two. We also receive an insight
into what life was like for some of the families left at home who were
left not knowing if their
husbands or fathers were still alive.
The book also contains photographs which have
come from the private collections of the men featured in the book. The final chapter of
the book features just a few of the many thousands of letters Michael Bentinck received
after writing My Dad My Hero. The
letters give an emotional and chilling insight into how the experiences of the men who
served in the Far East affected them and their families then and, in most cases, still
does to this day.
Forgotten Heroes
contains 160 pages, including a letters section and many photographs.
