After three books
about brave allied soldiers, sailors and airmen, during World War Two, My Dad, My Hero, Forgotten Heroes and A
Will To Live, Michael Bentinck was compelled to write a book about the
ladies who were left behind during the war and took up the challenge of "Digging For
Victory". Many of these ladies were plucked from very comfortable city lives and
thrown into the unknown, working on farms with animals and equipment that they knew
nothing about.
These ladies formed an Army of their own -
The
Women's Land Army. These dedicated women proved invaluable in keeping
food on the tables of Britain during World War Two.
War Time Woman contains
five true stories from five incredible ladies, Marion Andrews, Joyce Todd, Dorothy
Pitfield, Mary Chambers and Dora Ellis. The foreword to the book is written by the actress
Kathy Staff and along with the stories the book also contains a photograph and letters
section.
Michael Bentinck, and his wife, Hilary, have
always donated part of the proceeds from their work towards charities, and on this
occasion part of the proceeds from the sale of War Time Women
is going to the wholly appropriate, research into breast cancer and the after care.
War Time Women
